Zofran(Ondansetron) is applied for:
Preventing nausea and vomiting due to cancer chemotherapy or surgical intervention. It may also be applied for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Ondansetron is a serotonin 5-HT3 receptor blocker. It works by blocking a chemical thought to be a cause of nausea and vomiting in certain situations (eg, chemotherapy).
Do NOT accept Zofran(Ondansetron) if:
- you are allergic to any ingredient in Zofran(Ondansetron)

Before using Zofran(Ondansetron) :
Some medical conditions may interact with Zofran(Ondansetron). Inform your doctor or pharmacist in case you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:
- in case you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
- in case you are accepting any prescription or nonprescription preparation, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
- in case you have allergies to preparations, foods, or other substances
- in case you have liver disturbances
Some PREPARATIONS MAY INTERACT with Zofran(Ondansetron). Inform your health care provider in case you are accepting any other preparations, especially any of the following:
- Antineoplastic agents (eg, cyclophosphamide) because the effectiveness of these preparations may be reduced

How to accept Ondansetron :
Accept Ondansetron as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the preparation for exact dosing recommendations.
- Ondansetron is usually administered as an injection at your doctor's office, hospital, or clinic. In case you are using Ondansetron at home, carefully follow the injection procedures taught to you by your health care provider.
- If Ondansetron contains particles or is discolored, or if the vial or container is cracked or damaged in any way, do not accept it.
- Keep this product, as well as syringes and needles, out of the reach of children. Do not reuse needles, syringes, or other materials. Dispose of properly after use. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain local regulations for correct disposal.
- It is important that Ondansetron be given prior to cancer chemotherapy as directed. In case you miss a dose of Ondansetron , contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to accept Ondansetron.
Important safety information:
- Ondansetron may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Ondansetron. Using Ondansetron alone, with certain other preparations, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or perform other potentially dangerous tasks.
- Accept Ondansetron with extreme caution in CHILDREN younger than 4 months of age. Safety and effectiveness in this age group have not been confirmed.
- PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: In case you become pregnant while accepting Ondansetron , talk over with your doctor the benefits and danger of using Ondansetron during pregnancy. It is unknown if Ondansetron is excreted in breast milk. In case you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using Ondansetron , check with your doctor or pharmacist to talk over the danger to your infant.
Possible by-effects of Ondansetron :
All preparations may cause by-effects, but many people have no, or minor, by-effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON by-effects persist or become bothersome:
Constipation; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; headache; irritation, redness, pain, or burning at the site of injection; weariness.
Seek medical attention right away if any of these SERIOUS by-effects arise:
Serious allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); pain in the chest; fever; skin pricking or numbness; trouble urinating; eyesight changes or loss.
What is the shelf life of the pills?
- The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
